A teenage girl is lucky to be alive after her belly button stud ripped through her stomach in a car crash.
Jessica Collins, 19, of Cardiff South Wales, is recovering in hospital, with serious internal injures, which have been compared to a bullet wound.
The art student was in a car accident in Munich, Germany last week.
The incident caused her seatbelt to be projected into her stomach, forcing her metal navel stud almost through her spine.
Luckily surgeons were travelling in the car behind Ms Collins and called an air ambulance after discovering the extent of her injuries.
In another stroke of luck, an ambulance travelling nearby arrived on the scene shortly after the crash.
The teenager was rushed to hospital where doctors operated for three hours to save her life.
Ms Collins' stepfather Chris Beadle said it was fate surgeons and an ambulance were in the area.
''The stud had gone through several layers of intestine almost to the spine,'' he said.
''When she got out of surgery, she was on life support for 24 hours.''
Ms Collins is now warning people with a belly stud to remove it because of the potential dangers.
She is having stitches out tomorrow and it is hoped she will be home by Friday.
