Fire breaks out at Gatecrasher One
It is with great sadness that we have to inform you of some shocking news. At around 5pm this afternoon a serious fire broke out at our flagship venue Gatecrasher One in Sheffield. At this moment in time there is little more to add other than that we will keep you posted

Thankyou for the hundreds of emails and messages of condolence that we've received over the last few hours, there have been many touching testimonies of high times, fun and frolics Gatecrasher One. It is times like these when you the clubber show us how much of an important institution we have created...

Just remember, that which hurts will only make us stronger, and those who know Gatecrasher will be fully aware that the Lion always grows stronger in times of adversity; of course this is saddening news for us all but we are now only thinking of striding forward into a new era of Gatecrasher as we brush ourselves off and stand tall.

Events at Gatecrasher One are cancelled until further notice

Collapsed nightclub to be rebuilt

About 25 firefighters tackled the blaze at its height
The owners of a nightclub in South Yorkshire which collapsed in a massive fire have said they are determined to rebuild it.
Emergency crews were called to the Gatecrasher One nightclub - formerly The Republic - in Eyre Street, Sheffield, on Monday evening.

Several staff members were inside at the time but no one was injured.

The Arundel Street end of the two-storey building later collapsed, narrowly missing firefighters.

Roads closed

Fire investigators were still examining the site for clues on Tuesday.

About 25 firefighters were called in to tackle the blaze at its height.

A number of roads around the area had to be closed and several student accommodation blocks and work places had to be evacuated.

Managing director of Gatecrasher, Simon Raine, said he was determined the fire would not be the end of the club.

'Bigger and brighter'

He said: "We will be looking at how we rebuild the Gatecrasher One club, one of the cornerstones of the UK nightclub scene and our spirtual home, as quickly as possible.

"We want everyone to remember those memorable nights at Gatecrasher One from down the years, safe in the knowledge it will be back - bigger, brighter, louder and more brash - it will always be with you."

He added that a number of events planned for the club over the summer would take place at other venues.

The building was one of Sheffield's biggest nightclubs and the first of the Gatecrasher venues.

Gatecrasher bought the old Republic club in 1997 for £875,000. In 2003 it was given a £1.5 million makeover and was renamed Gatecrasher One.
